Aldershot, UK, 27 May 2005 - Working with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC: NYSE), Anglian Water is the first UK water and wastewater services company to deploy a new industry-specific integrated IT system, which will enable them to meet the unique challenges facing the water industry, including increased demand for water with limited resources, heightened customer services requirements and an ever-changing regulatory environment.
CSC, Anglian Water’s IT outsourcing provider, developed, tested and implemented the new IT system based on software designed by the German-based business software vendor SAP.
Anglian Water’s central functions - human resources, finance, project management and procurement were the first areas of their business to move across to the new system seven years ago, working with CSC. Following that success, and the delivery of major benefits to Anglian Water, SAP is now being implemented across most other areas of the company.
Following the latest phase of the rollout, completed in February 2005, details of all of Anglian Water’s above ground assets, such as treatment works and pumping stations, are now held on the new system, allowing the assets to be better managed by comparing data from sites. This means that, for example, costs can be compared between pumping stations or other facilities and the information used to drive cost savings and performance improvement.
Investment can also be targeted more effectively as the finance system is also linked to the new IT system. The next stage of the rollout of the new integrated system will include a customer management and billing system which will be used by Anglian Water’s Customer Services Department, allowing visibility of customer, billing and operational information in an integrated fashion to enable an enhanced, customer focused service.
Chris Waterfield, Anglian Water’s Programme Manager said: “The benefits of the new fully-integrated system are being felt right across the company. Certainly having several disparate systems, that were difficult to make compatible, meant that there had been data consistency problems across departments. CSC’s support and commitment in getting the system implemented means that we are able to offer more customer orientated services to our six million industrial, commercial and domestic customers, whilst reducing operating costs, and increasing efficiencies.”
Ivor Canavan, Vice President for CSC’s UK Managed Services business commented: “This is a significant achievement by the CSC and Anglian Water team and will undoubtedly lead the way for other implementations across the water industry. The benefits to Anglian Water mean that they are able to keep at the forefront of the industry in a demanding and changing environment.”
