Summary:
Application outsourcing is rare among insurance firms, but in July 2004 Zurich Financial Services signed the largest such contract in the industry, with Computer Sciences Corporation.

Zurich took this bold step as part of a strategy to transform itself into a more global company.

We talked with Zurich's chief information technology officer, Michael Paravicini, to get some insight into the thinking behind this strategy and what it means for the company and the industry.
