Summary:
Innovative enterprises are getting closer to the elusive ‘glass pipe’ by integrating Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies into their Supply Chain.

In recent years companies have tried to optimise supply chain management by investing in high level planning tools. However, these tools have failed to deliver real-time visibility on process, product and resources: organisations still can’t see what’s going on in their supply chains. Now, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and better systems integration offers the potential to make that visibility a reality.

This White Paper is based on CSC’s extensive global experience plus thinking on and research into Supply Chain Management. It examines the impact of mature track and trace technologies on supply chain management and explains how RFID, coupled with business process change, can create significant competitive advantage. It also describes current RFID solutions and looks at how different technologies can be deployed in different parts of the supply chain to optimise customer benefits. Finally, the paper lays out a proven approach to deployment, focused on maximizing return on investment.
